Edie, the Salsa FREAK!
LA Style 'On 1'
CUBAN STYLE

Cuban style is also known as »Casino Salsa« from where derives »Casino Rueda«. Male dancer with different dance figures and using hand moves circles around dance partner. This style is popular in Cuba.

NEW YORK STYLE

New York style is also known as »Mambo On 2«. That means that can be dance »On 1« or »On 2«. This is the cross body style, with interesting body movement and footwork.

LA STYLE

That style is similar to New York style. Is full of surprising tricks and moves. LA Style is always dance »On 1«.

COLOMBIAN STYLE

This style is relaxed. It is dance which reminds on Cumbia. The steps are simple and dance partners are dancing close to each other comparing to other salsa styles.

'On 1', 'On 2', 'On3', etc.

Salsa can be danced on 1, 2, 3 or 4. It depands on when the dancer sends his foot for first time (which is called breaking). For details see here...


Salsa Classes


Beginners salsa

Dancers will learn the basics of Latin-American rhythm, which derive from Afro-Cuban world, and basic salsa steps including mambo, rumba, basic, step back, open step back, cross-over. Beginners will become aware of rhythm and counting, learn first basic turns and dancing in pairs.

Cuban salsa

Cuban style is also known as »Casino Salsa« from where derives »Casino Rueda«. Male dancer with different dance figures and using hand moves circles around dance partner. This style is popular in Cuba.

Rumba

Rumba that is known from Latin-American dances differs from genuine Cuban rumba which contains sounds of African drums, Spanish poetry and singing. There are three types of rumba: Yambu, Guaguanco and Columbia. Dancers on a workshop will learn the primary movement which is the basis for all salsa styles.

Cha cha

Cha-Cha is originally known as cha-cha-cha and is a variety of mambo (which in evolution of dance diverged and became autonomous). It dances counting on 2, solo or in pair.

Mambo cha-cha-cha

Mambo cha-cha-cha is a combination of a mambo and a cha-cha-cha (also known simply as a cha-cha) and it is dancing on 2. It can be dance in couple or solo.

Salsa Swing

Salsa in swing is a combination of salsa and swing. Swing is the dance which is simple, dynamic and fun. When we combine those two styles we get wicked mixture.

Salsa HIP-HOP

Is the dance which mix salsa steps/movement with hip-hop style. Hip-Hop music and R'N'B in recent years became very popular. The workshop will offer dance moves that are similar to moves danced by dancers on MTV.

Salsa belly dance

The dance is the mixture of salsa and belly dance. Is very seductive and sexy mixture. It can be dance in couple or solo.

Rueda

Casino Rueda is a group salsa dance in circle. The group simultaneously dances the same figures round in a ring and changes female dancers. It is a fun dance that promotes sociability among the dancers.

Raggaeton

Raggaeton originates from Jamaica. Ragga is a result of Reggae/Dancehall and Hip-Hop combined. Raggaeton adds Latin music. Solo dance is energetic, seductive and is recommended to all dancers who would like to learn attractive moves with hips, shoulders and other parts of a body.

Bachata

Bachata is a romantic and seductive dance that originates from Dominican Republic. Basic instrument for Bachata music is guitar. Bachata was originally just type of music and later became music to dance to. It was popular in poorer social classes, so songs of Bachata mostly tell the story about poverty, love … Dance steps are simple, so that couple can communicate with seducing dance moves.

Cumbia

Cumbia is originally a Colombian folk dance and dance music and is Colombia's representative national dance and music. Modern cumbia includes instrumental mixing: guitars, accordions, bass guitar, modern flauts and modern deep-toned drums and other percussions.

Pachanga

Pachanga is a type of Latin American music and dance originating from Cuba. It still remains very popular, however, in Cali, Colombia. The dance is mixture of cha cha and mambo.

Boogaloo

Known also as a popcorn music. Is a genre of Latin music and dance that was very popular in the United States. The boogaloo dance is loose and interpretive in style. The dance is mixture of mambo and rock and roll.

Street salsa

A mix of Colombian (Sonora Carruseles), Venezuelan (Oscar De Leon) and Cuban (Los Van Van, Celiz Cruz) Salsa with a touch of Cuban Hip-Hop (Orishas, Clan 537) ,Afro Cuba Orisha ( Grupo Afro Cuba,Buena Vista Social Club,Dizzy Gillespie,Munequitos de Matanza) rhythm and Shines (improvisational breaks, fancy footwork and body actions.

"One of the roots of Salsa are the Clave (rhythmic pattern developed in Cuba) and Afro Orisha music. Afro music came with the slaves from Africa when the Spanish bring them to Cuba. They play their drums to thank their gods or Orisha called Elegguá, Ogún, Shangó, Yemayá."

Romantic Salsa

A romantic and erotic style that the dance partners dance very close together, almost like one person. In these more slow down version of salsa the dance partners dance with a lot of chemistry between them and in a more seductive way.

Romantic Salsa - Music:
"Also known as Salsa Monga (Limp Salsa) is a "commercialized" toned down version of salsa music that emerged in the mid 80's between New York and Puerto Rico. Emphasis was taken away from the hard hitting orchestrations of the 60's, 70's and early 80's and focused mainly on the romantic softer creating a mixture between earlier salsa brava and ballad style. It was an exploited venue that saw the likes of Eddie Santiago, Frankie Ruiz, Luis Enrique and Lalo Rodriguez. Marc Anthony is the most popular of this style of Salsa Romantica of the last 2 decades."

Deeps and tricks

Dancers in pair/couples will get to know acrobatics and drops which makes salsa to some dancers more interesting.

Spins technique

Dancers will learn correct techniques for various turns – how to make one or more turns on the spot or in movement, in pair or solo. Workshop is very useful and will help to improve dance technique.

Ladie's styling ON1 and ON2

Workshop is for female dancers, who wants to seduce dance partner and surroundings with special movement. Dancers will learn different moves, get control over body, develop unique style and become more self-confident. The classes will be on1 and on2. If you wana visit workshop on2 we recomend that you already know the salsa steps and turns.

Men's attitude

Male dancers will learn different movements mostly for upper part of a body. They will learn special footwork, some turns and even more secrets from men's world of salsa. They will learn how to charm the dance partner on the dance floor.

Salsa partner work ON1 and ON2

Dance partners will learn interesting and attractive tricks, useful on a dance floor. They will get to know the style and the teaching method of a dance instructor. Salsa partner work on1... see explanation.

Body movement in footwork

Dancers will learn how to move their body when they do different steps or shines. That is how they will start to feel the music more, and get more conect with their body and rhythm.

Footwork ON 1

Line salsa dancing uses many different and interesting steps that are useful later on a dance floor. Remember, salsa is not just dancing in pairs!
